Cherry Crumble

My lovely boyfriend had been amazing - tidying, cleaning and sorting out the house etc while I had a super busy week at work, so as a Friday treat, I cooked a meal of his choice.

He loves it when I make homemade burgers and one of his favourite topping is prawns with mayonnaise. So after work on Friday, I went and got all the ingredients and saw a big container of juicy looking cherries

I heated them on a low heat with 4 tablespoons of raspberry jam for a few minutes

Then covered with crumble (I cheated this time and bought a crumble mix :s ) 25 minutes in the oven at Gas Mark 6 (200 c)
In the meantime, I whipped up some burgers, the prawn mayo topping, homemade chips and corn on the cob. I also made a delicious and healthy coleslaw (forgot to take a picture of it though!). I used this slimming world recipe (minus the radishes).

After we had eaten it, the crumble was ready. We topped it with custard and naughtily polished off the lot!!

Apologies for the steamy picture - fresh out of the oven!
It definitely went down well! (I'd just like to point out that Olli doesn't always get treated so well ;) )

Tuesday kitty post

Although going back to work on a Monday is hard, Tuesday's are always my down day. After 3 hours of skating to attempt to burn off some of the Christmas weight, I was in a meeting from 9.30 until 4pm today - aghhhh!

So, a few kitten pics to cheer me and anyone else feeling the Tuesday blues up :)

This is Mo, he is just over 6 months old. After months of pestering Olli for a 'brother' for Ant, I came home to this little bundle. He loves cuddles, sleeping in/on/under my handbags, play-fighting with his 'brother'/shadows and drinking out of the bathroom tap. A little cutie!

Exciting year for the Brawds!

A roller derby related post for today...

I've been part of the Norfolk Brawds Roller Derby team for about 2 years now. In that time, we've gone from strength to strength!

And this year we will be taking part in the Heartlands Series Tournament with 11 other teams!

This is such an exciting time for the team and we cannot wait to skate with the other awesome teams out there!

After having a break over Christmas, we are back to practice tonight to start our training for the year. CANNOT WAIT!!

We are always looking for new skaters, referees and non-skating officials to join the team - if you are in the Norfolk area and interested in joining us or just fancy seeing what we are up to, check us out on Facebook, Twitter, or contact us on our website

I'm hoping I can last 3 hours of training :s

New Year's Day

The morning of the first day of 2013 was spent watching Home Alone and eating a hearty breakfast with friends following a night at the pub to bring in the New Year.

The sun was still shining in the afternoon and after weeks of rain and clouds (typical British weather!), we decided to take the girls out for some exercise. Though not technically our dogs, they are excellent walking companions, so off we went down the country lanes near our home.

Secretly I only wanted to go for a walk so I could wear my new wellies that I got for Christmas! Joules do some gorgeous ones and they are perfect for splashing through puddles - although Daisy the pug wasn't so keen!

New Year Resolutions

We are nearing the end of 2012 and I have been thinking about what resolutions I would like to make for 2013...

1. Improve my fitness - The hectic start to 2012 with the house project meant that I put roller derby on hold until July. I've spent the rest of the year trying to catch up with the rest of the team who have progressed so amazingly while I have been away! So, for 2013, I would like to get back to the fitness level I was in 2011 and continue to improve on this.

2. Relax - I am naturally quite a stressed person, but also like to keep busy. When i have lots of things on my plate, I start to panic. This really isn't healthy, so I need to make time to relax and keep organised to keep some balance in my life. This also links to the next point....

3. Learn that it is ok to say NO - It IS ok to say no sometimes. I always worry that it makes me look like a horrible person, when it's not always realistic to say yes to everything. Be it every social event, extra projects at work or additional responsibility for the roller derby team - IT IS OK TO SAY NO SOMETIMES!!

4. Find more time to sew - Since getting my sewing machine in May, I have completed 3 small projects.  In 2013 - I want to sew more and advance in my projects. This will also give me some relevant things to blog about, which leads me to...

5. Make time to post on this blog!!! - This goes without saying really...! A bad start in 2012, but i'm already making more of an effort and 2013 hasn't (quite) started yet!

I hope you all have a great start to 2013, have you made any resolutions? What are your plans to celebrate?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Shopping the Sales

As I am off work until January, I've had plenty of time to browse the internet for sale bargains!

Collectif is one of my favourite shops for affordable vintage reproduction clothing and until TOMORROW have an amazing 40% off

Amongst a few other things I have already purchased this gorgeous Dolores top in red and blue and white polka dot. I already have this in black and get so much wear out of it! With 40% off, this top is only £15!

I am also in desperate need of a new winter coat. After trawling the busy high street on Thursday, I hadn't found a single coat I liked. This short Mariella coat is gorgeous - I don't know why I didn't get this with my original order! With 40% off, this coat is only £69, which is pretty reasonable.

Dorothy Perkins is one of my favourite high street stores. Surprisingly they stock a range of vintage style dresses that are affordable and made out of modern materials, so you can get a bit more wear from them.

They are currently offering an additional 10% off sale items if you buy online too. So far I have found 12 dresses that I love! They still appear to have a good stock of sizes too.

This Black Ottoman dress is currently £17.10 with the additional 10% off for shopping online. This would be a great dress for work or teamed with a beehive and flicks of eyeliner for a 60s look. It's also available in Aubergine.

Peplum dresses have been all over the high street this year. They give a nod to a vintage look and are also super flattering - particularly after a Christmas of over-indulging!

There are a range of colours and styles on the website.

My favourites include this Lace print peplum has pretty lace detailing which brightens up the black. The high neck also makes it work appropriate for a bit of office glam! £18 with the additional 10%

This purple lace ponte dress is only £9 with the additional 10% off! A complete bargain and also available in pink, lilac and blue for a bit more money.

The lace sides of this lace panel dress in port are super sculpting for the waist. This dress is £18 and available in purple and teal.

There are lots of other styles in the sale - I could go through these all day!

Time for the shoes!

I was a bit disappointed with the Schuh instore selection, but their website has a massive range of reduced shoes.

These Irregular Choice oz bowtiful court shoes are my favourites - polka dot with a cute knitted bow and perspex heels. The heels don't look too high either, so could get plenty of wear out of these beauties! These are £49.99 with free delivery and available in red too

The only problem with Irregular Choice shoes is that they soles are almost too pretty to walk on!

These red alisa patent hush puppies are also super cute. Hush puppies are also extremely comfy, so you could walk all day! Now £39.99 and slightly more expensive in black

These Blowfish tarta boots are available in black and tan for £39.99.

Finally these Iron Fist Ladykiller heels - WOW! £39.99

I need to go back to work now to pay for all this!

This was NOT a sponsored post - these items are just a few personal favourites from websites I like to use. Prices were correct at time of posting.
